On November 11, 2009, the fifth grade students at Main Street Elementary School saluted our veterans by having a "Take a Veteran to Lunch Day" in the school cafeteria. Twelve veterans joined our students for lunch, and after lunch they shared information with the students about their military careers and the importance of supporting our military personnel. Main Street School would like to thank all the veterans who participated in helping to make this a memorable fifth-grade event.

Members of the Titusville community proved once again that our town is a great place to live as they pitched Saturday to clean up the streets. As budget concerns have forced the city government to cut back on services like leaf collection, citizens made the rounds with rakes, shovels, pickups and even a frontloader to take care of the problem themselvs (and enjoy the unseasonably nice weather for mid-November).
More images of the leaf collection can be found HERE.

The Titusville Area School District has received its shipment of H1N1 vaccines and will be administering the vaccinations to students with parental permission. Please read the information contained in this article carefully.
School clinics are scheduled for the following days:
-
Wednesday, November 18th at the Middle School
-
Monday, November 23rd and Wednesday, November 25th at the High School
-
Wednesday, December 2nd at Pleasantville Elementary School in the morning and Hydetown Elementary School in the afternoon
-
Friday, December 4th at the Early Childhood Learning Center
-
Tuesday, December 8th at Main Street Elementary School
The district will also be holding a special evening flu clinic on Tuesday, December 8th at the Titusville Middle School from 4-6 p.m. This clinic will be for children whose parent/guardian would like to accompany them and are not able to come in during the school day and for those students who may have missed the clinic at their school due absence.
If you would like your child to receive the vaccine injection please fill out both sides of the enclosed permission form and return it to school immediately. Students who return their permission forms will come to the clinic by class during the school day and administered the vaccine injection by district nursing staff. Vaccines will not be administered without completed and signed parent permission forms. Again, this vaccine is free of charge.
Children age 9 and under will need a second dose of vaccine and that will be provided at additional school clinics in early January. In addition, if your child is age 9 and under and has already received one dose of the vaccine we will be happy to give the second dose at school. The second dose must be at least 28 days after the first one. Your child can have the injection if the first dose was the Nasal Spray type vaccine. It is safe to give both the Nasal spray and injection.
If your child is over 9 years old and received either the Nasal Spray type vaccine or the injection – he or she will not need another dose of the H1N1 vaccine. If you have any questions please call the school nurse at your child’s building.
Please refer to the school district website at www.gorockets.org for more information on the H1N1 Flu Vaccine or if you misplace the enclosed documents they may be downloaded from that location.

Titusville Middle School will be holding its annual Voyager Fest on Tuesday, November 17th, from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M at the Middle School. Team Voyager, who is sponsoring the event, consists of the middle school art, music, physical education, library science, technology education, family and consumer science, foreign languages and computer science departments.
This year's theme is Project Pay It Forward. The expression "pay it forward" is used to describe the concept that when someone does a good deed for you, instead of paying them back, pay it forward by doing a good deed for someone else. The evening is an opportunity for our students and family members to interact with our teachers and community organizations. There will also be opportunities for family members to participate in hands-on activities. There will be a prize drawing for families that participate. Prizes will be a $50 Walmart Card, a $50 Splash Lagoon Card, and an IPOD Shuffle. Please bring one non-perishable food item to donate for admission to help us "Pay it Forward" to a local food bank!

Japanese Day was recently held in third grade and Mr. Orner and Mrs. Elan's classes enjoyed food and fellowship Japanese style. Both classes completed a unit on Japan in which they learned about the country's culture. They dressed in kimonos (aka: Bath Robes )and ate Japanese type foods with chopsticks.
It was quite an adventure and an awesome learning experience!!!
