Mrs. Krepps' 2nd grade class welcomed their pen pals, Mrs. Ferris' 2nd grade class, from Cambridge Springs. After corresponding all year, the two classes met for the first time for an Earth Day celebration. The theme for the day was "Reduce, Recycle and Reuse". With the help of parents, teachers and numerous volunteers, the students participated in many activities to reinforce these concepts.

The day started with both classes reading Earth Day poetry together

Followed by Mrs. Royek reading Just a Dream

Other activities for the day included planting flowers, searching for items on the nature trail, and building a geodesic dome from reused newspapers.

The Crawford County Solid Waste Authority provided a light up display to present recycling facts, as well as many items made from recycled material for the students

Thank you to everyone involved for making this Earth Day such a success. The students enjoyed an exciting, educational and entertaining day. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with new friends learning how to help the environment?

The Cat in the Hat was on the loose at Hydetown Elementary on Wednesday. The talented cast of the Middle School's production of Seussical the Musical gave the students a sneak preview of their show. Under the direction of Andrea Strong, they entertained the students with acts from Horton Hears a Who. On behalf of the students, staff and faculty, I would like to thank them for taking the time to share their talent and to entertain us

An annual fundraising event at Hydetown took place during the week of Feb. 8th. Our Penny Drive was extremely successful and it raised approximately $1100.00. A portion of the money will be used for a school contribution to Haiti Relief and all of the other great things our PTG does for us.We included the collection of Boxtops For Education this year and that boosted our total. As a culminating activity to the Penny Drive we all participated in a school wide dance celebrating our penny collecting skill and Valentine's Day all at the same time!!!

Both classes completed a unit on Japan in which they learned about the country's culture. They dressed in kimonos (aka: Bath Robes Wink)and ate Japanese type foods with chopsticks.
