A Great Graduation or Any Occasion Gift!

Looking for the perfect gift?

TITUSVILLE An Illustrated History by Mabel K Clark is an excellent high school or college graduation gift!  Whether graduates move from this area to pursue future plans or stay closer to home, this 192 page book provides an interesting and informative account on the historical legacy of Titusville and the surrounding areas.  As we celebrate OIL 150 this year in Titusville, the history book takes on added significance making it an excellent purchase for visitors to our area!

This attractive, hard cover book is available for $15 at the Titusville Area School District Administration Office located at 221 N. Washington Street, Titusville, Pa., during regular office hours (M-F, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.).

The following paragraphs from TITUSVILLE An Illustrated History are a brief excerpt from the book's historical account of Drake Well.

"As early as 1854, the Pennsylvania Rock Oil Company was formed - the first petroleum company ever organized.  That same year, they obtained land from the Brewer Watson Lumber Company near Titusville.  By trenching the land, they collected about three barrels of oil which they sent to Yale University to have chemists study it.  The depression of 1857 caused a reorganization of the company and a change in the name to Seneca Oil Company.  Edwin L. Drake was chosen as a manager to go to Titusville and to start drilling for oil.

Drake had no experience but neither had anyone else - no one had ever drilled for oil.  Although he lacked experience, he had determination, resourcefulness, and perseverance - all qualities that were needed if he were to be successful.  Drake encountered so many problems that had he not had these qualities, he would have given up many times."

Teenagers dance! That's not news. Wait! These teenagers were dancing to songs about French grammar and vocabulary!

Nearly 1,200 students from Western Pennsylvania attended a lively, power-packed concert in the French language. Étienne, a Canadian teacher and award winning rock musician, performed Friday, April 30, 2010 at Franklin Regional School District.

Students from Titusville High School, under the leadership of Mrs. Sandralee Kozlowski, were actively engaged in singing, dancing and miming out the words to a variety of French songs. THS was even invited to dance on stage to one of Etienne's songs. This fun, energy-filled concert was the ultimate educational experience. Students used their French in a variety of catchy hip-hop, club dance, rap, rock and reggae melodies.

One wildly popular hit song "Pourquoi Take French?" is a rap song that tells exactly why students should take French. On the international scene, French is second only to English as the most studied world language and influential language.

French, after English, is the key language for business, technology and research. France is second in the world for telecommunications; third in aeronautics. It is a leader in petrochemical research, and promotes ecological research and application. France is one of the leaders in oceanography, nuclear research, automotive technology, and computer software and services industry (it is second only to the United States worldwide). France is also in the forefront of medical research, including projects involving AIDS, cystic fibrosis and other diseases.

This concert provided Titusville High School French students the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the language and the world. As citizens of the United States, they will need this knowledge as they make decisions that will impact their lives and futures.
